The BallStateInsider.com has posted a nice lead story and photo on Chesterton's Novak on their front page. _________________ "THE REGION - CHICAGO'S SUNNYSIDE"

This kid should think hard about BSU versus IU...at BSU he likely starts as a Freshman...at IU not for sure by a long shot....in the MAC he can make more of a name for himself for the NBA possibly... by likely starting four years... asa three year starter he may just blend into the Big Ten mix in my view.
At BSU he has the legit potential for his name to continue as a lasting legacy with a banner hanging along side MCCallum's and Wells...not very likely to occur at IU.
Just food for thought.

The kid just scored another 35 points last night with 14 boards and 6 assists. He moved into 5th place all time scoring in Porter County surpassing former Valparaiso HS, VU and NBA player Bryce Drew.
He is the kind of kid that would be an asset to any program because of his character and work ethic regardless of playing time which should be considerable.

Last night Novak carried his Chesterton HS team to a narrow victory over a Valparaiso team that did a good job of totally slowing things down and controlling the tempo. Chesterton prevailed 41-40 and Novak had 22 points and 9 rebounds as 4th ranked Chesterton moves to 16 - 0. The game was played at Chesterton in front of a standing room only crowd of five thousand.
I think this guy would be a real nice addition to our program in all aspects. _________________ "THE REGION - CHICAGO'S SUNNYSIDE"

I'll keep my fingers crossed on this kid. He sounds like a nice addition to any program. I'd like to see him with Cardinals across his jersey.

Totally agree Elmer! I also think it may be very hard to get Zach onboard once bigger schools chime in. I understand what we are trying to build here and have total faith in Coach Taylor, but Zach may opt for a "bigger name and/or conference" regardless of what we think. _________________ Go Cards!

I think the Zach likes BSU...the campus....its just the right distance from home...he has several friends here....let's close the deal !!!!!
He can play here as a Freshman...likely start, and play on a minimum of two NCAA teams in my opinion !!

I'm student teaching at East Chicago Central and many of the folks there are hoping for an EC/Chesterton Regional game to see how "that Novak" kid will match up. Hopefully both schools and get there. EC has got atleast some D1 players on their rosters...would definetely make for an interesting morning of basketball! _________________ Fight Team Fight for Ball State!

Chesterton and EC had a preseason scrimmage and I understand Novak did very well and so did Chesterton. I realize that is different than a game let alone a tournament game but take it for what it is worth - it would be an interesting match up especially since Chesterton may have lost a key player in PG Jordan Lewis Saturday night. .

EC has K.Short and of course Angel Garcia, but they have found a real smooth player in their Guard Conner. EC's backcourt has been surprisingly good, but if they struggle, so does the team. It's Short and Garcia though that cause the match-up problems...especially if Garcia is hitting 3's. If he is not, he tends to fall in love with the deep ball, EC gets beat. I hope to see them play one or two more times before sectionals. _________________ Fight Team Fight for Ball State!

Novak currently only has two offers, Oakland and IPFW. BSU coaches feel confident with the wings they have coming in are not interested in signing any others.

I know for a fact that Valpo has offered him, too. And Michigan coach John Beilein was spied at one of his recent games. _________________ Chirp, yo.

I would add to what PL BSU said that Michigan recently had Zach go through some sort of a work out highlighting his ball handling and shooting skills. I heard they are looking to improve their outside shooting and feel Zach may fit that bill. I also was told that Zach really lit the gym up in this workout with his outside shot to the point that he got in a groove that even Zach was surprised about. I was told he hit 16 of 21 shots from what would be the equivalent of an NBA 3 from various spots on the floor. I guess in the shooting side of the work out he hit nearly 80% of his shots from various ranges.
I understand he an the Michigan Coach even chuckled about it but none the less it was a very impressive shooting performance.
I know Ball State has looked at him a couple of times but do not know anything more than that. It may be that we do not have a need for someone at this time and will focus on the "Bigs". Zach is a great kid all around and I would sure like to see him in a Cardinal uniform but certainly wish him the best regardless.

We are in desperate need of shooters. Novak sounds like a big time talent.

I'm sure Billy Taylor would snatch him up in a New York minute. It's all up to the kid if he wants to come to BSU. I guess we will know in a couple of months.

I don't believe Valpo has any schollies left, he did have an offer early from Valpo. I'm sure Zach will get alot more offers after the season, but at this time he has only the two according to Hoosier Hoops Report.

Valpo still has three scholarships left for next year, according to today's Northwest Indiana Times... and they appear to be back on Novak's radar screen...
